From Mexico City to Tokyo and Shanghai, the press tour for The Devil Wears Prada 2 became a global phenomenon leading up to today's highly anticipated premiere in New York City. Each appearance showcased the season's most extravagant looks, including gowns from Susan Fang, Schiaparelli, Valentino, Chanel, Stella McCartney, and, of course, Prada. This designer flurry of looks is a far cry from the more subdued looks that graced the red carpet for the original film at the Los Angeles Film Festival 20 years ago. As Meryl Streep noted in an interview with Greta Gerwig for the May 2026 cover of Vogue, "Well, in the first film, everyone was afraid of Anna, so we couldn't find the right clothes."
This time, the focus is on bright, fresh fashion straight from the runway. "I know people are looking at it," Erin Walsh, Anne Hathaway's longtime stylist and a former Vogue model in the early 2000s, told Vogue's Christian Allaire. What inspires such vibrant looks? "If you look at all the big fashion houses where the new [designers] are working, you see this idea of joy and clothes that make you feel like a supernova version of yourself," Walsh explained.
There were also plenty of opportunities to play up the nostalgia of the original film's costumes. Several of the actors showed off their own updated takes on the famous azure color—Streep wore a custom J.Crew sweatshirt, Hathaway chose a fringed Sacai dress, and Simone Ashley (Gen Z's Emily) wore a Fidan Novruzova gown.
