According to a study conducted by Spanish scientists, regular coffee consumption may help maintain muscle health in older people and slow down age-related decline in the body.
Researchers analyzed the results of 54 scientific studies and examined the effects of the main components of coffee, such as caffeine, polyphenols and trigonelline, on the body.
The results showed that these substances can have a positive effect on the activity of mitochondria, which produce energy for cells. In addition, it was determined that these components help reduce inflammatory processes and oxidative stress, and regulate fat and glucose metabolism in muscle tissue.
According to statistical observations, people who regularly drink coffee are less likely to develop sarcopenia and senile frailty syndrome.
However, experts say that it is too early to consider coffee as a proven preventive measure for preserving muscle mass. In their opinion, larger-scale clinical studies are needed to accurately determine the direct effect of coffee on muscle mass in humans.
It should be noted that the study examined the possible benefits of various substances in coffee; these results do not mean that coffee is equally beneficial for all people.
