The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Baku hosted a reception on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, to celebrate the National Day of Egypt and the 74th anniversary of the Revolution of 23 July 1952.
Global Art reports that the celebration was attended by H.E. Mr. Farid Gayibov, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as Guest of Honour and representative of the Government of Azerbaijan. The reception also brought together senior Azerbaijani officials, members of the Milli Majlis, ambassadors and representatives of the diplomatic corps, heads of international organisations, members of the Egyptian community, and distinguished guests from the cultural, academic and business communities.
In his address, H.E. Ambassador Houssam-Eldine Reda welcomed the guests and expressed his appreciation to the Government and people of Azerbaijan for their friendship and continued support. He highlighted the longstanding bonds between Egypt and Azerbaijan, recalling the words of the late National Leader of Azerbaijan, President Heydar Aliyev, that what unites the two countries is far greater than anything that could divide them.
Ambassador Reda noted that relations between Egypt and Azerbaijan continue to flourish under the leadership of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and H.E. President Ilham Aliyev. He emphasised the two countries’ shared commitment to peace, international law and sustainable development, reflected in Egypt and Azerbaijan’s hosting of COP27 and COP29, as well as the twelfth and thirteenth sessions of the World Urban Forum in Cairo and Baku.
The Ambassador also underscored the importance of translating the excellent political relationship between the two countries into stronger economic, commercial and people-to-people cooperation. He identified trade, investment, tourism, culture, education, scientific cooperation, engagement between think tanks and participation in the reconstruction of Azerbaijan’s liberated territories as promising areas for further collaboration.
Addressing the reception, H.E. Minister Farid Gayibov conveyed the congratulations and best wishes of the Government and people of Azerbaijan to the leadership and people of Egypt. He praised the enduring friendship between the two countries, which is founded on mutual respect, shared cultural values and a rich historical heritage.
Minister Gayibov highlighted the significant progress achieved during the 34 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Azerbaijan on 27 March 1992. He noted that the two countries have concluded 65 agreements, memoranda of understanding and protocols covering a wide range of fields, including trade, finance, healthcare, education, tourism, agriculture, youth and sport.
The Minister also referred to the regular high-level dialogue between the two countries, including the visits of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to Azerbaijan in January 2023 and President Ilham Aliyev to Egypt in June 2024, as well as President Aliyev’s participation in the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit in October 2025.
Both sides reaffirmed their determination to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and expand it into new areas that serve the interests and aspirations of the Egyptian and Azerbaijani peoples.
The celebration reflected the depth of the friendship between Egypt and Azerbaijan and the shared commitment of both countries to building an even stronger and more diversified partnership in the years ahead.
